Editors South Australia (Editors SA) is the lead organisation for editors and editing in South Australia

Editors South Australia is a professional association that supports practising editors and promotes the highest standards of editing. Editors SA provides regular opportunities for its members to meet one another, develop their editing (and related) skills and keep up to date with new technologies. Professional accreditation is strongly advocated through IPEd (Institute of Professional Editors) as a way of setting an objective benchmark of standards. IPEd’s Editors Directory links editors to potential employers or clients.

About this event
You've made the decision and maybe even thought of a name, but how on earth do you get your new editing business on its feet? New freelancers may well find that they are overwhelmed by legal, commercial, administrative and software tasks they have to undertake to turn their idea into a sensible proposition.

Luckily, we have two savvy freelancers on hand to help. Lauren Bevilacqua (part-time freelance editor with prior business and legal experience) and Heather Millar (long-time freelancer and well-established editor) have a wealth of knowledge and information to share with members, who will benefit from getting two points of view.

Topics for discussion abound and would fill up more than the 1.5 hours available, so we've asked Heather and Lauren to select topics that they've cracked (with some wrestles along the way). Heather will speak about the overall experience of setting up her business, including the aspects of marketing, websites, getting clients, setting rates and doing sample edits, while Lauren has advice on developing a business mindset, time management and working out and setting up your business tools. (Discussion and input from others will be welcomed.)

To attend this meeting, please register and then go to our temporary Facebook group* (your booking confirmation will contain a link) to tell Lauren and Heather about topics you're interested in. They'll do their best to accommodate everyone, but remember: 1.5 hours, including questions!

* If you don't use Facebook, please email your topics to edsa.events@iped-editors.org

Please note that this is a BYO lunch meeting.
