About this event:

Blogs, websites and social media have made it possible for almost anyone to publish online, but what’s the role of editors? This workshop is aimed at editors interested in adapting their skill set to work in online environments, such as editing blogs and text for social media or websites.

Following the workshop, participants should:
  • feel confident editing text-based documents and publications for use online.
  • understand how traditional editing skills translate to an online environment.
  • have a strong grasp of the nuances of the English language in an online context.

The workshop will cover editing skills needed for the online environment; online publishing; use of English language online; what to look for as an editor; and giving feedback to clients. There will be practical exercises for participants, including editing text for multiple uses, and an opportunity to receive structured feedback on your editing. You are welcome to bring a laptop or other digital device to work on, but it is not essential.

Lauren Bevilacqua is an inquisitive wordsmith and an engaging presenter whose love of words has led her into editing and content writing. Lauren’s work includes writing and editing blogs, webpages and social media for marketing companies, community and not-for-profit organisations, and corporate clients. Her qualifications include a Graduate Certificate of Editing and Electronic Publishing and she is currently completing a Master of Communication specialising in digital media. In her spare time, Lauren runs a book club, is learning to solve cryptic crosswords and loves playing word games.
