Philip worked as an editor at the Distance Education Centre/Flexible Learning Centre, University of South Australia from 1994 to 2001. His primary responsibility in this position was to edit a broad array of distance education/flexible learning materials.

His other work experience, which has also helped to enhance his editorial expertise, includes the following roles with the University of South Australia and, in the first case, its antecedent institution the South Australian Institute of Technology: Tutor and Lecturer (Aboriginal Task Force and School of Aboriginal and Islander Administration, 1988–1993); Online Adviser (Learning Connection, Flexible Learning Centre, 2001–2003); OUA Program Manager, Flexible Learning Centre (2003–2008). In addition, Philip has also worked in the roles of Online Tutor Supervisor and Project Liaison Coordinator with Open Universities Australia (2008–2012).
